The Center for Human
Rights & Constitutional Law has worked on behalf
of unaccompanied immigrant and refugee minors for many
years. The Center has designated unaccompanied
immigrant and refugee minors as particularly
vulnerable immigrants meriting special solicitude in
U.S. immigration law, as well as treatment appropriate
to their age and experience in encounters with federal
law enforcement agencies and state child welfare
entities.
Among other work, the Center serves as lead counsel in two major class action settlements requiring improved treatment for immigrant and refugee children: Flores, et al., v. Napolitano, et al., No. CV 85-4544 and Perez-Olano, et al., v. Holder, et al., No. CV 05-3604 (C.D. Cal.). This site collects materials and information useful to advocates for unaccompanied immigrant and refugee minors. |

ABOUT The
Immigrant Children Project seeks to address both policy
issues relating to the treatment of unaccompanied
migrant children, as well as mechanisms for the delivery
of direct non-governmental community-based services to
such children. Initially the focus of this work is on migrant children who have left their countries in order to enter the United States, or who have already entered the United States. As additional information is gathered from institutions and advocates outside of the United States working on behalf of unaccompanied migrant children, the scope of the project may expand to include issues in other countries, particularly in Central and South America. |
